Addictions-
Addiction is a complex disorder characterized by compulsive drug use. Problems with Substance Abuse and Addictions often develop slowly over a period of time and can take a variety of forms, but generally, people who are addicted feel an overwhelming, uncontrollable need for drugs or alcohol, even in the face of negative consequences. At OPS Psychology we use our expertise in diagnosis and addictions to determine exactly what the problem is and how best to treat it.
It is important to remember that we are not only talking about alcohol and street drugs like cocaine and heroin but a variety of substances used for sleep aid, pain relief, and concentration often first prescribed by your doctor. Whatever the substance, when it begins to negatively impact your performance, relationships, or health, you have a problem. Some of the signs that you have an addiction are below:
Do you feel like you can’t stop using, even if you wanted to?
Do you ever feel bad or guilty about your drug use?
Do you need to use drugs to relax or feel better?
Do you need to use drugs to fall asleep at night?
Do your friends or family members complain or worry about your drug use?
Do you hide or lie about your drug use?
Have you ever done anything illegal in order to obtain drugs?
